Carbon13 Plans Berlin Move, New Fund to Tap Into Climate Boom
Britain-based Carbon13, one of the first climate-focused accelerators, plans to expand to Berlin this year and raise a larger fund for further investments in its climate startups, co-founder Michael Langguth, said in the Naturebacked podcast.
“We’re coming to Berlin, where we see a huge potential in terms of the number of people wanting to work on climate solutions,” Langguth said, adding that founders often like to work near home in the early stages. However, this was not the only reason for the Berlin move.
“We do see some inertia in European or EU-based founders coming to the UK,” he said.
Carbon13 defines itself as a venture builder for the climate emergency, working to create some 200 ventures that have the capacity to reduce CO2e emissions by 400 million tonnes, or 1% of global emissions.
The first 20 startups have been launched so far by cohorts 1 and 2 of Carbon13’s Venture Builder for the Climate Emergency, across sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, and food waste.
The next showcase day of Carbon13 teams is on 24 May in Cambridge.
